Abstract

Socio-cultural transformations and the rapid advancement of information and communication technology have significantly affected the education sector, including Islamic education, which is required to continuously adapt its instructional strategies. Digital innovations, such as augmented reality-based learning media, are considered capable of enriching students’ learning experiences and aligning with their needs in the digital era. However, globalization driven by technological progress also poses challenges, particularly the potential erosion of local cultural and religious values, making the strengthening of religious character essential as a moral foundation. This study aims to analyze the transformation of Islamic education in Bone Regency and explore how educational institutions integrate local traditions with the demands of modernization. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach through literature review and analysis of educational social phenomena. The findings reveal that transformation occurs gradually through methodological innovation, the integration of technology, and curriculum adjustments aligned with educational policy reforms. Evidence from Islamic boarding schools indicates that the salaf curriculum can be integrated with the madrasah curriculum, while institutional uniqueness is maintained through local content. However, disparities in readiness and implementation remain key challenges. This study concludes that balancing tradition and innovation is essential.
